The Middle-American Dream vs. Reality

IMHO your iconography speaks towards the middle American dream vs reality.
— My Cousin David

I was messaging my cousins on Instagram the other day and he mentioned that he thought my “iconography speaks to the middle-American dream vs. reality.” I had never really thought about it that way before, but I think he is right. I think that idea was always somewhere in the back of my mind as I capture images of Northglenn.

Northglenn was an incredibly hopeful and optimistic place when it first started making its claim to the plains outside of Denver, but slowly over the last 5 decades reality has set in. Similarly I think many people who currently live in Northglenn had bigger dreams of living in nicer houses and areas, but the reality of the the market and economy in Denver has slowly set in.

Reality isn’t all bad, Northglen isn’t a bad place to live by any means, but I think the dream is quite different than the reality. I still need to think this through a lot, but I like this concept and lens for viewing this project on Northglenn moving forward.
